Interested in these mapping products for finding target areas on unfamiliar lakes. Would like to hear unbiased thoughts from anyone who has used these products. The only real info I can find on the internet is written by people sponsored by Humminbird, would like to know if any of you are using it

I know nothing about the smartstrike, but I do use the contour elite. The elite has worked out very well using it to do a map recon and check the area's point's , flat's, inlets and so on. It has been a well used tool. I use the navionics chip a lot because of the stumps, and hazard area's because lakemaster really doe's not explain the hazard area's as well as the navionics does. Hope this helps you or answers your questions. Tight lines.

thanks for the review! do you know if it has the feature where you can mark a spot where you caught fish, and then it will highlight similar areas?

The contour elite has where you can put in information on a lake and then you hit the search button and it will mark all the possible areas for you and all I do is bring my depth finder in and hook it up and just do a map search and where the marks are I set a way point and go from there. It has worked really well in most cases and well worth the money. I put all the way points on my navionic and also put them on my lake master. I have an 899 depthfinder up front and my 898hdsi on the drivers stations. If I know the lake pretty well I'll set up the lakemasters chip and put all the info in it on depth, and how far you want to fish from the bank out to whatever depth that you prefer. Like I said it's a tool and well worth if for me.

So far the smartstrike has been usefull. First plugged it in it had most of my waypoints that I know have produced for me in the past were highlighted which was good news. It has all the features of the lakemaster card. Fishing new lakes it will help you find the humps and ridges a lot quicker. I did actually fish a highlighted area that I wouldn't have normally fished and did mark and caught a few sand bass. It is a helpful tool but no guarantee. So far I am happy with it.
