A friend was telling me he read an article that in Texas you can no longer use treble hooks when using live bait. Can anyone verify that, couldn't find info on tpwd website. Thanks.

I have not heard that from anyone. It is not on TWPD's Legal Devices, Methods& Restrictions page.

I prefer live bait on a circle hook. Trebling a live shad is common. The problem is that the fish has a tendency to suck the bait all the way in and therefore the treble catches in the stomach instead of the lip making it difficult to impossible to release the fish alive.

Red Snapper

Daily Bag:4Length in Inches (Minimum - Maximum)15 - No limit
Red snapper may be taken using pole and line, but it is unlawful to use any kind of hook other than a circle hook when using natural bait.

Yea when I was younger I almost exclusively used treble with live shrimp and there were times the fish got tore up removing the hook. What size circle hook would you recommend for live shrimp for redfish/specks; and is it just as effective? Thanks.

I wish they would make circle hooks mandatory for all live bait.

5/0 is what I plan on using.
