So my dad is looking at purchasing a bay boat. He is looking at the Shallow Sports and believe he may have found one he really likes. I have a few questions for those that dont mind sharing knowledge. The current boat he is looking at comes with a garmin gpsmap 188c sounder. Although i am not familiar with this model I am familiar with Garmin products and do prefer them. Any info on this model would be greatly appreciated.

Part number 2. I am looking for a good iPhone GPS app that i can use with my iPhone 6S Plus. I am not asking nor planning on using coordinates others have used an being a "potlicker"? as i believe the term may be. I would like to know if anyone uses one that works on the Laguna Madre area as im aware from fishing PINS that coverage is spotty to non existent (one that works without a data signal). We are unfamiliar boaters in that area but not unfamiliar to boating and having a "backup" easy to use GPS would help make the trips more enjoyable as fr as peace of mind. Again not looking or asking for honey holes as i agree with others that finding the "spots" if part of the enjoyment. Thanks for your time.
