I got a little eager and jump into the installation, got everything re-routed that made ZERO sense from the factory and then, only then did I read the instructions.... "Warning, do not mount directly to an aluminum boat with an isolation material between the charger and hull due to possible electrolysis" DANG! I plugged it in and of course, it works as it should, just wondering if anyone has this unit mounted on a aluminum boat directly.

I had one mounted like that for several years and it worked fine. I might have just been lucky. Just get some rubber washer if you're worried about it.

You didn't say if you mounted directly to an aluminum boat with an isolation material between the charger and hull.

By the way, their statement makes no sense. If you mount it directly to an aluminum boat, then there is no isolation material. The word "directly" implies directly contact, and if there IS an isolation material, well, then it's not "mounted directly".

Maybe what they intended, or should have said was: "Do not mount in an aluminum boat with an isolation material between the charger and hull."? I'm guessing they want the charger's case electrically connected to the hull, which would mean metal to metal. Call MK and ask this outright.

This is the warning statement from the onboard Minn Kota Charger which I have.

CAUTION � Because the body of the battery charger is metallic, do not directly mount the charger to the hull of an aluminum boat. Use a means of isolation (such as wood or plastic) to prevent the charger body as well as mounting fasteners from coming in contact with the aluminum boat structure or hull. Doing so will eliminate any risk of electrolysis that may occur when AC power is connected to the charger

seems like they could have made some rubber bushings to make this an easier fix.

I'd take that mo'fo' back.
