Can someone tell me what went wrong , this is the Lowrance Elite 4 with Chirp , its mounted on my kayak thru the scupper hole . This is my first time using it so all the setting were on auto .

Looks like you zoom in to far on your 2d sonar. try zooming out.

You are zoom in 4 times in 8ft. of water!! Another thing be sure taht you have select the right transducer in the Installation menu

Wow , Thanks guys I had not even noticed the zoom mssg . That is the problem when you don't understand it you don't know what to look for . I have read the instruction book but its not very clear do either of you know anything about the Dr Sonar DVD's and have any opinion of them or any other way to learn how to use my new unit.
