I am thinking about putting a Lowrance hds 9 beside my HB 999 but I am not sure about the transducer you will need as I will mount the unit at the console and mount transducer on the transom. I haven't had a Lowrance since I had a lsm 332 years ago. Reason I am looking at a Lowrance I fished with a guy that had Lowrance and the sonar seem much better than my HB's

If you are putting it outside the boat the skimmer that comes with the unit is what you need.

For what it's worth, you won't be able to run both 2d sonars at the same time on the same frequency for comparisons sake. The freq's run on the same MHz so you'll have to put one on 83 and the other on 200. If you're just gonna use the Hbird for side imaging and the Lowrance for sonar then that will work just fine.
