Does anyone use the Nmea 2000 with a Humminbird unit? There is not much understandable information on the internet. Says you need the $200 black box. Then is says it connects to the motor and the Humminbird unit. What it does not talk about is how it connects to the outboard. The outboard I am trying to find out about is a Mercury 250 HP, older model. Not sure of the year as it belongs to a friend of mine. But it does have hook up for plugging in a monitor to diagnose problems and see all faults listed. I am just trying to understand how this works. My friends boat the gauges are old and work sometimes. He is buying the 1199 in a couple of weeks and I thought he might could really use this option.

The motor must have the data harness already to connect to the NMEA 2000 adapter and Ethernet cable to connect to the display.
The gauges are already in the unit's software.
