I'm getting a new boat and am looking at different graph options. I was looking at the HDS series with structure scan, but I really don't want to spend over 1k per unit, and if I did go over that it would be the HDS 5, which seems tiny for side imaging.
If my research is correct, the chirp unit offers high quality sonar, down imaging, and chart plotting on a bigger screen. I'm leaning that way. Does anyone have experience with this unit? Likes/dislikes?

If you want Side Scan, no Elite models have that or are capable of it.
You can get Down Scan and 2D sonar with a lesser unit like the Elite models.

Do the elite models have gps mapping? I have 2 elite 7hdi that have mapping. Only complaint is that the mapping is slow updating running down the lake.

Actually I just realized side scan isn't an option today. I have no way to wire through to the bow so I hadn't planned on getting one for this boat anyway...
