Hey guys, just wanted to post this for informational purposes. I bought a 8' Talon from a guy on craigslist a few weeks ago for $500. Thing looked brand new and the spike deployed no problem. However, after installing it on the boat, and taking it out for the first time it didn't work. The led depth markers would all light up and the motor would constantly spin, making a loud clicking noise. I went home and took the cover off to find out there is a clutch/ spring assembly inside of the spool that went bad. I took it over to a local authorized service center hoping they would repair it under warranty. Unfortunatley, it was out of warranty, but only cost $225 to fix. Feel like I still made out on the deal. Very, very happy with the repair facility here in Houston. There is really not a whole lot to these Talons, and from what I was told, the parts that can wear out, are fairly cheap to fix. Not really sure how this will compare to a Power Pole, but just excited that it is fixed and ready to put back on the boat! Here are a few pics that I took for those that are interested.

The guys in Houston (G & S) do a great job with repairs on trolling motors and the Talons. I have two of them 8 footers and one started having issues, similar to yours, and they fixed it for $100, so good as new. The 8' Talons are an early edition i think and the newer 10 and 12' ones have more powerful motors and are a bit quieter too. Glad you got yours fixed and using it. They are great and so simple being electric. I am going to look at the 12' Talon and should be making a deal to get one of those soon. Good Luck!

G&S is where I took it. Those guys got it out in two days! Was very happy, and took it out today and performed flawlessly. I wonder what makes the '10/'12 models better? Could you do a motor swap on it? Wouldn't be hard at all.
