Instead of a 4th large battery for electronics and all the room that that takes in smaller boats, has anyone ever considered using a smaller lawn mower battery or a few 6v motorcycle batteries in parallel?

6v would be in series to make 12v, and these twin packs could be hooked in parallel to build a big 12v battery. The load you need to supply is the key. Smaller batteries mean less capacity so you need to match the supply to the demand. Three large capacity batteries and a Perko switch would be my pick for a 12-24 system.

Yep, my bad. What I should have said was a couple of lawn mower batteries in parallel or motorcycle batteries in series.

If you have a good cranking battery you won't need the extra battery for electronics etc. I run live well aerators, power poles, and 3 hds units on my cranking battery with no problems.

These work well and keep space and weight down.

I use a small lawn mower battery for my front electronics. 998si, Helix 10di, 360 imaging and network gateway. Works well for me. I charge after every trip so I don't know how long it will go between charges.

No kidding. The kayak crowd I see sometimes use them.

You can get ups batteries rated at 12V/9.5ah that fit in a fat fifty ammo box. Tie a few together and you have an impressive portable battery box. Waterproof too. Doubles as an anchor. <G>
