Have a 998 and was thinking about moving that to the bow and putting a helix 12 in the dash. Guy at bass pro said he hasn't heard good things so far on helix and said stick with 998. Also tried to sell the Lowrance setup which is slightly more, $4k for all new setup vs my Humminbird setup.

Like the bird but wanted to get user feedback from those who have a helix....what you guys think? Satisfied? Is it fast, simple, clearly, better?

Thanks

The guys at the box stores counters are pretty useless when it comes to things like this. I have moved up over the years from the 597 to 898 and 998 and 1199. I know have the Helix 12 and as far as I am concerned it's the best one yet. Brighter, faster processor, auto chart live and the screen has better resolution. Pretty much like the 998 as far as setup goes same transducer and power cables. For me it was just had to change the head out along with a different gimbal mount. The menus are the same just a little different look.

The guy at Bass Pro probably does not know the the Helix series is the same as the discontinued number series models, with faster processors and brighter displays.

The Helix 12 models have about 5,000 more display pixels per square inch than the 998. All the Helix 12 models have selectable CHIRP 2D sonar.

Helix 12 CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G3N and G4N, 1198c SI, SOLIX 10 SI G3,
Helix 8 MEGA SI+ GPS G4N, SOLIX 12 SI and G3, MEGA 360, MEGA LIVE TL, RC-1

I've sat around and listened to those guys answer peoples questions about FF. Some of them don't have a clue what they are selling. I have noticed that they always seem to push the Lowrance brand over all others. I don't think that I have heard anything bad about the helix except someone complained about the size of the case.

He did the same thing to me, no names, he has nothing good to say about Hummingbird or Minn Kota. Pushes Lowrance and Motorguide big time. Must be looking for a new job!

BTW, I bought two Helix 10's, not from BPS, really happy with them - good units.
