Just bought a new 999ci hd gps combo unit and has option for 5Hz GPS or 10Hz GPS

Should it matter?

Thanks

The 5 hz updates 5 times per second, the 10 hz updates 10 times per second. If you're traveling at 10 feet per second, the 5hz will have updated every 2 feet while the 10 hz will have updated every foot of travel. Technically the 10 hz is twice as fast but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is twice as accurate for your needs. If you're wanting the fastest available, buy the 10hz but the reality is that there are more models out the with 5 hz right now than 10 hz and it doesn't seem to be a deal breaker for anyone I've talked to.

So you have to purchase additional equipment to use 10Hz?

I don't know your particular equipment so I can't answer that.
