I've been looking for a Humminbird for the front of my boat for a while, specifically a 999 but just didn't want to pay the big box retail price of $1499 plus tax. For grins, I went to the Black Bear Sporting Goods website because I've purchased stuff from them before and was always pleased with the transaction. I saw they sold a lot of Humminbird accessories, but did see the 999 listed so for grins I called and asked about it. They do sell them but they are listed on another site that they run, Hodges Marine.
Their price for the 999 was $1293.34, much cheaper than I have found it anywhere else. With no tax and $8.99 shipping it came to 1302.29. Subtract from that the Humminbird $200 rebate and that makes it a pretty attractive deal at $1102. I did find it online at a couple of places a little cheaper than the big box stores, but everyone was in the $1400s.
A good comparison is, if you purchased a 899 at $999 retail and paid sales tax on it it comes to $1081. Net it out and that's a difference $21 for an inch larger screen and the same HD SI transducer that comes with the 1199. Not a bad deal for a few minutes of web surfing.
