I have a friend with an hds5, it won't make trails,any one know how to turn on the pink line?

I think it's under the navigation and/or chart menu (press menu twice and scroll to navigation). There is a button there to record trails and a button to display trails. Both need to be turned on, if I'm understanding your question correctly. And you can change the line any color you want.
