has anyone ever successfully made a backup copy of there card, onto another SD card to have as a "backup"?

You can copy the information to another card, but it will not work in another unit. The software will only work on a card that has the exact same serial number of the original card. You can make backups in case of accidental erasing so you can reload it to the original card.

Art Wright here from Navionics. I suggest highly that you do not attempth this. Although it might be successful, you run the risk of erasing the original chart. Or charts are not to be copied or information should not be downloaded to them.
