Hello Everyone, the IFFF Texas Council Fly Fishing Expo is THIS WEEKEND in Grapevine!!!!

This will be the largest fly fishing event to be held in the DFW area in a very long time. I encourage to you come out and participate so we can attract more events like this to the area. And besides, this is going to be a great event. There is a large variety of activities going on this weekend including 11 different fly casting workshop topics, multiple fly tyers, kayak demos, fly fishing presentations, youth activities, FOOD!, vendors, and there is even a screening of one of the fly fishing series films (these films are a lot of fun if youve never had a chance to see one.) And hey, it is being held in downtown Grapevine, so, there activities nearby for a non-fly fishing spouse to do.

The Fly Casting workshops will be led by a half dozen IFFF Master level casting instructors in addition to another dozen IFFF certified instructors. This will be one of the largest gatherings of experienced casting instructors ever in Texas. The casting workshop topics include: Beginning Fly Casting, Intermediate Level, Womens Casting Cultivation, Intermediate Fly Fisher, Go Deep Casting and Fishing Sinking Lines Successfully, Seeking Salt Casting Strategies for Saltwater, Accuracy Casting, Double Hauling 401, Two Handed Spey Casting: Texas Style, Single Handed Spey Castings: Texas Style, Getting Control of Weight: Casting Weighted Flies and Nymphing Rigs, and Refining Your Cast: Gaining Efficiency. Without a doubt, there is something for every casting skill level this weekend.

There are more excellent fly tyers at this event than I can list, but they include Kelly Gallop, who will be demonstrating the Sex Dungeon fly among others, Pat Cohen and Mike George, two of the countrys best deer hair bug tyers, Fred Hannie and Mike Morphew, tying realistic flies, Kyle Hand, one of Americas best full dress salmon fly tyers, and many, many more fly tyers. If you tie flies or are interested in tying flies, you dont want to miss this weekend!

So, here is your personal invitation to come out to Grapevine this weekend starting Thursday evening through Saturday to see the best fly fishing show ever held in Texas!

Come join us Saturday, rain or shine, it's going to be a great day.

We have a lot of good casting instructors and the instructor to student ratio is one of best you'll find anywhere. Several people got private lessons today.

Entry should be free as they are trying to educate as well as bring awareness to the fact we have a flyfishing community in Texas.

I don't remember the admission price, I think it is $10. But the general admission price includes all the seminars, fly tying classes, speakers, and vendors. The casting classes, which are two hour classes and a whole lot cheaper than a comparable class from a fly shop (we have several instructors helping who's normal rate is a lot more expensive than $50 for two hours), and tonight's banquet meal are not included in the entry price, but pretty much every thing else is included.

I don't see the price on the website either. It was there Friday, I think it might have been turned off in error when the online registration was closed.

As far as the comment that everything should be free, really are you serious? The facilities to host an event this large are not free, they must be rented. Several of the featured speakers are from out of state and travel is not free either. For what is being offered, both the general admission and casting classes are a bargain.

As a side note, for the 2 handed rod folks, TFO has new 2 handed rod called the BVK series. Stop by the TFO booth and test cast if you get a chance. I liked it a lot, especially with a Skajit head.

Boy I wish I lived closer ! I'd be there for sure. But I'm at least 6 hrs away and that's too far for a one day trip frown .

Headed to the expo today admission to any expo usually cost money, there's a lot of planning and advertising cost money. Like Rex said the venu is not free. Also anybody that wants to complain should get involved and help out the next year (since your so smart) but if you don't want to get involved and help then don't say anything. @5wtfly you have good points instead of bi*ching about it why don't you word it in a way that's constructive instead of turning people away. It's a lot of hard work to organize these things I'm not 100% on this but I think it's the first year and with the experience next year will be better. So anyone that attends the event should give gratitude to thoes who orginized and who are working the event.
