Ok so I'm looking a little advice on catching river stripers while wade fishing a tail water. A buddy of mine and I went striper chasing last weekend on the Illinois River in here in Oklahoma and it was a humbling experience. We both realized that we don't know a thing about striper fishing. We looked for them in maybe the same places high would find largemouth bass, deeper water around structure. We threw every thing from smaller clousers to bigger double receivers and got nothin. We did see a striper or two cruising, but it seemed like they were always on the move. What can you guys that chase them tell me? Are we fishing the wrong type of water? Are there certain patterns I shoud look for? I'm feel like I'm clueless

not like largemouth bass.. stripers, whites and hybrids always seem to be on the move from or towards food or the shelter of deep water. In the big rivers it helps to know their feeding cycles and the river topography. Tailrace fisheries can be tricky as the fishing depends greatly on the flow rate or cycle. The Brazos below lake Whitney has a hydroelectric power plant on it and if you know or can predict the run schedule then you can better guess the feeding pattern of the fish. For those of us that only get to fish big rivers a few times a year it is a real challenge to find fish consistently or at all...
