Fished my usual spot last friday. After all the rain the water was VERY cloudy. Not quite chocolate milk but pretty nasty. I was able to get a few to bite. Was getting ready to go home but decided to make a few more casts. My back cast was a little low and the fly caught some long grass behind me. I went to dislodge my fly from the grass and as soon as I got the fly out I looked down and noticed a Dark Brown snake not 3 feet from where I was standing. I am fairly certain it was a Cottonmouth. Scared me half to death and I am sure I screamed like a little girl. He just slithered off and left me alone but it was too late for my nerves and I decided to head out. Snakes are fun. Those last two look like some really good size Green Sunfish.

Ha, yea, I just noticed that. Still a nice fish - just one now instead of two...

Where is the pic of the snake? If it slithered off, it likely was not a cottonmouth.

Snakes give me the chills,I have no time for them, water snakes are agressive and rattlers and Cotton mouths are what I believe to be good if they are dead.

I usually leave snakes alone if I can. I saw this video a while ago which made me think twice about killing them. https://youtu.be/314N7xIeRR8

you know when you are up on a high building and you look down and your butt tingles? ever done that? I get that same butt tingle when I almost step on a snake. A cottonmouth is definitely a butt tingler. -p-
