...very well at all. If the fish at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center are any indication, most stocker trout would starve to death if they had to rely on sipping bugs out of the surface film. I heard from a reliable source that the trout were jumping completely out of the water from 1 to 4 PM today. Apparently, from what I heard the fish fed on top consistently all over the big pond at the TFFC. My source told me that trout would attempt to slurp up a dry fly up to four times before it got saturated and sank, missing it every time. My source did say that it was a beautiful day to get in some casting practice and hook the occasional mis-labeled baitfish. Maybe if we genetically engineered these fish to have a bigger oral cavity...and to be more adapted to warmer temperatures. Finally my source said that catching them there troutfish isn't a terrible thing, but that they were certainly ready for spring to get here.

It is a cool sight to see them leaping out of the water for a bug even if they are stocka's.

Wader, I never said my source was a male type person.
Cole, my source wasn't able to determine what it was the troutfish were feeding on, but a size 16* royal coachman seemed to be the ticket. The troutfish thoroughly snubbed an elkhair caddis in a similar size. The source also testified that they were jumping completely out of the water, up to 2X their admittedly small body length.
*Apparently they do make flies that small. Weird huh?

My source looked at the forecast for the week and decided that troutfish fishing beat no fishing at all. I may have slummed slightly by writing it up.

Even though the anti-trout Mafia disapprove, I'm glad your source had a fine time.

I had a stocker fly over my line the other day. I was like geez, that was fun, can we get these guys eyes checked before releasing them. LOL

What is your source's code name? Deep Trout? Didn't Deep Trout kick the bucket a few years back?
