I called up crapicat and asked if he wanted to get out and chase a crappie or two. Hes been under the weather recently and also suffering from cabin fever. He couldnt get his boat and equipment ready fast enough. We left my house around 10:30 and headed to the fishing hole. We caught fish all day long. My thumb is done. Only one problem, wrong species! I know there was at least 6 crappie in that hole. Well, the bycatch, I would guess hundreds. I wish we could have found more crappie, but it turned out to be a great day. Oh, the big long striped things were a bonus. Managed around 4 before they educated themselves. It was sight fishing at its best. There was a half dozen flies destroyed this day. Cheers!

Great report! When I saw "bycatch" I kind of figured it must be some stripers in there.

Sounds like a terrific day.

Hey Meadowlark, the stripers were just a tad much for the 5wt z-axis. I will have my 6 next time. I took your advice on stripers thrashing leaders and tippet. These fish destroyed 10 pound fluorocarbon. I changed tippet at least 3 times that day, which is a lot for me.

Just a heads up everyone, if youre going upriver from Hamms, be really careful. The water is super skinny past Bee Mountain. Its about a foot deep across the majority of the river.

Hahahaha! Right! It was like sightcasting to reds! The school had about 15 in it. They were crushing the fly. I need a boat really bad or more friends with boats!

Jessie10 may be out that way Sunday if your not working. Bono fly and I thinking about hitting that stretch of water. Looks like a great day I may try to educate a few hundred more of them for you. See so that way you can get back to your Crappie fishing! bolt On a side note what floro where you using? You know me and representing seguar Invisix that stuff can get ruffed up pretty bad and still hold strong. I think Ill pack my little 76 three wt. to wrestle with those bycatch fish. Should know half of them by name after the last few years lol. All that aside my kind of day on the water congratulations!!!

I was using Berkley vanish. I only used it because I only have a little bit left. I just bought some seaguar grand max that Ill be using from now on. You better take an extra rod for the striped fellows. The faster you get em in , the faster you can catch another one. Give me a call.

You need an airboat or one of those little stand on boats like they run on the coast...with a jet motor...then we could run up the river, give my leaky duck hunting waders a break! dance2

It was a great catching day, perfect weather, as well.

What yall dont see based on the pics in the post, is how many selfie type pics that were taken...on as usual, I always leave my phone behind...Jesse was just snapping up pics like crazy...finally, I said hey, take a pic of my fish, us with a double, etc...from the posts it looks innocent, behind the scenes, he is secretly trying to become a fish and stream photographer!
