I'm looking for a 5wt rod that will throw larger buggers and streamers, perhaps even with a spilt shot or two on it. Softer tip and a fast action. Have the power in the butt and mid section. Had a Cabela's Therom and LSI, only because they were on sale, neither one would cut it for me. Thanks

soft tip- sounds like glass to me. Rarely will you find a soft or true moderate action in graphite. And if you look into vintage think 6wt.

The new TFO Clouser rods were pretty much designed for the use you described. Bob Clouser was the primary designer of the rod. My personal favorite for those situations is the TFO Mangrove series. It is a faster action than the Clouser, but it is a fun rod to fish. My advice is to test cast the rods you are interested in and then get the one you like best. You'll be the person fishing with it.

Myself personally have been using poppers and clousers without problems except in heavy wind . Follow the link to the VXP and you can read what Sage says about the VXP . I can vouch it is a great rod . The VXP will cast any of these without problems .

If you get a chance, try St Croix Legend Elite. It has a softer tip for a faster action rod.
If you feel like reading, search for Yellowstone Anglers 5 wt shootouts. They give some pretty detailed reviews on numerous brands.
