I want to build new 3 boxes and really need to overhaul the ones I have. I need help with size/color/types of flies.

1. (5wt rod). Texas rivers. Aka smaller fish
White bass, Lm bass, guad bass, perch, rios.

2. (8wt rod.) Texas coast.
Red fish, flounder, trout, jacks,drum

3. (5&8wt rods) Texas lakes/rivers. Aka bigger fish
Bigger Lm bass, buffalo, carp, crappie

sounds like clouser minnows and other stuff similar like baitfish patterns and bigger streamers with a few crawfish patterns and wooly buggers thrown in will fit almost every bill

Sight casting reds or flounder--- dark redfish, sz 2 mainly, crack type patterns, some weighted others less so.
Open, unobstructed water like the surf or wadeable bay shorelines for trout mainly---unweighted or lightly weighted sparsely tied baitfish patterns, favorite colors, chartreuse over white, pinks. Gray, olive, Purple, black. Sz 1-4
Structure like marsh drains and reef margins for flounder, reds, and trout---more heavily weighted shrimp and baitfish patterns in the same colors plus orange.

I'm sure you have some but for the bass perch and crappie wooly buggers are the way to go! I use some midges if you'd like I'll send you some no charge just pm me

These are my trout, redfish, flounder, drum go to flies. Any can be made from unweighted to heavy tungsten depending on what and where.

Olive wooly boogers, foam grasshoppers, carp crack and a white/chartreuse clouser will keep you busy in fresh water.
I don't know much about salt water fishing.

Clousers work in both salt and fresh water. Always carry a good assortment of them.

Other saltwater flies in the must carry list would be deceivers and seaducers. For speciality situations, I like a lime punch, crab flies, and the gotcha. Plus always carry a popper or two.

For fresh, all variations of wooly buggers big and small...coneheads, flash, etc. added for effect. Favorite panfish fly = Miss Prissy but Prince nymph and squirrel tail nymph and zug bugs are outstanding for all panfish especially in BH versions.

Don't forget a few Lefty Deceivers. They are great for mossy bottoms where you want the fly to ride in the mid water column. White and chartreuse are great for bass.

They are fish crack. Clousers don't leave home without it.

Yes sir, I just use eyelash yarn vs. The more normal EP as the collar. Craft fur (a little flash with craft fur) or Steve Farrar tail, estaz or similar chennile, then about 4 wraps ofthe eyelash yarn. I tie in the eyes first. Mini through small lead are my favorites.

Eyelash yarn came from Hobby Lobby. A package probably will yield well over 100 flies.They used to more have colors. Not sure why they pared back their selection. I do most on sz 2 SC-15 from Gamakatsu. Some I do on bigger heavier Mustad big game light hooks. Still sz 2. I like a shorter shank hook for this.

Crack flies are a pretty simple tie. I just like the eyelash yarn more than EP up here in relatvely muddy water. I've done EP versions too. But the eyelash version has landed many reds, along with flounder, some trout, some drum, a few croaker, and my 2 sheepshead. I think it passes for a crab or shrimp, but that's just a guess. Some I add a weed guard too.

The photo is just some of the variety of yarn available. Honestly, I use the root beer with tan, olive, or orange tail most of all. The silver has been pretty good in winter. The eyelash yarn pulses some on being stripped in. Hugs the body on the strip, opens up on the pause.

Great handful of flies right there I bet they do have a lot of action in the water!
