I have been thinking about taking the kayak out and seeing if I could get into some whites and Hybrids with my fly-rod.
Anyone have any luck with this? What kind of set up would you run? What about flies?

shad looking clousers always work, white or gray, basically anything that mimics shad
At least a 5/6wt, floating line with a leader

Can't go wrong with clousers (well, technically,I suppose it is possible) in a few sizes and colors. But best bets would be same size/colors as the bait fish. A sinking line to get down to where they are might not be a bad idea.
Knowing a bit more about where you will be fishing will make for more streamlined tips. That sounds like a blast though!

Agreed, finding them is about 90% of that battle.

You missed the run on the Nolan. Robert Hunter made me sick because I was working so much I wasn't able to get out there.
I'm on other forums that deal with the old turbo powered Buicks.;)

I am in the DFW area so pretty much any lakes, creeks, rivers where I can put my kayak in the water.

I've been going in the evening when they are chasing shad. I made some white foam poppers and took my 3wt the first few times until I hooked up with a striper or big hybrid, you can't hardly turn them. They have been bustin the top all over the lake at Buchanan lately.

I was catching them on almost every other cast at Lewisville on Saturday. I was wading and not in a kayak. They were hammering the shad on the top and a cast in the direction of the chaos was a guaranteed fish on. Look for the birds and then the action on top of the water. I was using an olive clouser minnow.

This being said like previously stated if you can find them you can catch them.
