Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Robert Magee along with his father, Bill, and friends, Dave Devland and Steve Dieker, repeat customers from Kansas City and in the restaurant business, chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We had winds out of the east at 7 mph with the sun playing peek-a-boo, temperatures in the low 90�s. As the anglers boarded the boat, I asked them what they were interested in catching on this trip, and their response was a Bill fish and eating fish.

On the way out we stopped to purchase a dozen live Goggle Eyes in the port from T&T Bait. Fifteen to twenty minutes from the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water south of the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started trolling around with two plainers down and four surface baits. Each plainer had a sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we had Ballyhoos and Bonito strips. As we worked the reef, ranging from 90 ft. out to 200 ft. of water, all the anglers took turns bringing in their catch � 5 Kingfish, 3 Barracudas, 2 Tunas, and 8 Bonitos � while Steve was the official photographer for the trip.

There was a color change and rip forming in 400 ft. of water, a likable place to put the kite out and look for a Sailfish. While we were waiting for the black shadow to appear, we put a Snapper rig on the bottom, which produced four Tilefishes. We hoped and tried hard to catch a Sailfish, but there were no sightings.

The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. At the dock, our mate, Dave, filet out and bagged the angler�s catches, while Bill, a true gentleman, and I told war stories about fishing in our home stomping grounds in Staten Island and New Jersey.

A side note - Robert and his gang chartered the Topshotfishing team a couple of days later for a Swordfish trip. With the electric reel we fished in 1800 ft. of water, 20 miles from shore, and hooked up with a Swordfish, which we fought for an hour and twenty minutes, but luck was on the Swordfish side and he escaped.
