Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Holly Carmen and her two sons, Jacob and Jayden, along with their grandparents, Bob and Kay Engle, from Oklahoma chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Winds were out of the east at 10 mph, seas running 2-3 ft., with temperatures in the mid 80’s and blue skies. The family had just ended their vacation on a cruise ship to the Caribbean and decided to do one last thing before going back home – go on an exciting fishing expedition.

Jacob, a student in a school of dentistry in Oklahoma, requested to do some Shark fishing as he came on board the boat. After leaving the dock, it only took fifteen minutes for lines to be in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. As we trolled the reefs, the anglers took turns reeling in two Kingfish, two Bonitos and two Black Fin Tunas.

It was now time to hopefully fulfill Jacob’s request. I headed out to the Shark grounds located in 375 ft. of water south of Fort Lauderdale. We put out three Shark baits – one surface, one midrange and one bottom. Jacob was standing overlooking the water and shouting out to the Shark while Dave, our mate, was putting chum in the water. The surface bait got a strike as line ripped off the reel but then went slack – a swing and a miss. A couple of minutes went by and then the midrange bait screamed line of the reel – hooked up!! – Jacob jumped into the fighting chair and the fight began. After a twenty-five-minute fight, Dave wired in a Hammerhead Shark for picture taking and was released to fight again.

With a happy young man’s request fulfilled, it was time to head back – the anglers retired into the a/c salon for the relaxing trip back to the Bahia Mar Dock located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
