Had a small window to do a drive up and fish in the CC area on Wednesday and since no one is posting fishing reports of the Texas coast, especially not in this section, (except you Herbert7
) figured I'd post a fishing report in the TFF saltwater fishing report section.
Plan was to hit one of three drive up and wade spots in the CC/ULM/Mustang Is area but also brought a kayak along to save time intending to head quickly to the farthest area of one these drive up places and wade fish back to the truck.
Got to the first two options and found access was not there, and with time slipping away, decided to hit a different nearby spot in the upper, upper Laguna Madre to get some fishing in.
Hit the water and got to the area wanting to fish. Hooked & lost a couple nice size trout roughly upper teens size then the Black Drum showed up as expected. Kept the first two both roughly 20"+ for fish tacos and cerviche, and then released the rest of the fish. Roughly 7 more fish. A just under sized flounder tried to join the party but was sent home.
Action was consistent but not fast and on spinning gear the fight took a while. The fish were all about the same size. Bait was free-lined live shrimp on a #1 Kahle hook. Expected more trout but they were pretty much a no show.
Not a bad few hours of fishing, would of caught more if..........
Had a guide in a White & Black Majek motor across the water in front of me and set up a drift/holding pattern down wind looking to put his clients on the same drum. This is a fishing report not a bitching report, except to report that if you get into the drum in the ULM in the flats you might expect some guides to fish the same school and one at least will set up pretty damn close to you for his clients. So be aware.
Water was fairly murky in the area fished and looked worse in the JFK area; whether from all the rain, brown tide, wind, don't know. Tide was way up.
