Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Mike Miller and his wife, Ann, from Connecticut were vacationing in Fort Lauderdale enjoying the sunny weather and decided to charter the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing. Winds were out of the east at 9-14 mph, seas 2-3 ft., temperatures in the mid 80's. Mike was interested in catching a Shark so we planned on saving some time for Shark fishing.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale 1.8 miles from shore. We started out with two #8 plainers, one with a chartreuse sea witch and the other with a pink and blue sea witch, both had double hooked Bonito strips. For surface baits we went with four Ballyhoos. I trolled from one artificial wreck to the other ranging from 80 ft. out to 188 ft. of water while Mike and Ann took turns bringing in three Kingfish, two Mahi Mahi's and one Tuna.

It was now time to do some Shark fishing. We headed out to 400 ft of water north of Fort Lauderdale and put out one surface, one midrange and one bottom Shark bait. The trap was set as Mike assumed his position in the fighting chair, while calling out for the Shark, "here Sharky Sharky". Forty-five minutes passed and then the bottom rod bent over. Hooked Up!!!! -as the Dacron line peeled off the 80 International Penn Reel. Dave, our mate, cleared the other rods as Mike played tug of war with the fish at the end of the line. Fifty minutes later a very healthy Dusky Shark surfaced as Dave wired him in for picture taking and release.

With a smile on Mike's face, he and his wife retired into the a/c salon for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
