So, I have fished Sandlin once this past April for a club tournament. It was rough, no one did particularly good, but I did horrible. I think I had 4 fish for 6+ pounds. This time it is a night club tournament and was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what to try at night in August on Sandlin. If anyone could point me on the direction of some spots to check out or what coves or areas have underwater lights that would be amazing. Any information would be much appreciated.

I have had luck on Summer nights running a buzz bait horizontal to the banks and/or bumping off timber. I have also had luck running a buzz bait across shallow flats. Locations were always North of the dam.

Been told that if you go to the Monticello damn, and go to the right hand side, there is a concrete structure on the dam that is lighted. I was told to throw dark worms and hold on as they flutter down. Never worked for me.

I almost always stay on the dam side of the railroad bridge. Lots of lighted docks in the coves on the South shore. Clear running in the open water.

Our club has the option of fishing in the day in June-August tournaments. I realize the water temp will probably be on the 90s, but is that maybe a good option? What about areas or ideas in the daytime on Sandlin in mid-late AUGUST?

Welcome to the forum Treyflo. I don't want to sound like the a$$ in the forum, but not a whole lot of people are going to pipe in on this topic to benefit you for an upcoming tourney. Many hard working guys here that have learned this lake by going fishing and losing more tourneys than they have won. Fishing is all trial and error. What works on one lake, will not work on another. Last Saturday the water temps were 85-87. Fishing (for me) has been really tough the last month or so. Have a friend that lives on the lake and he said the last 4 times he was out he only caught a few dinks. Even early morning top water has been slow. Get some hits but most time they miss. What you do catch are small.

I was using 10XD's in the timber on the pond dam on the south side of the lake about mid-way down the lake. Caught four small dinks (bait was almost as big as the fish).

Look for deep water. Points going into Millionairs Cove usually hold some spots. I've always found Sandlin to be tough in the summer (like most lakes).
