Someone please give me some insight to this lake. How can a lake that was so FULL just a few months ago, be almost 3 feet low today? Last week it was 100% full one week ago and today it is 75%? Where do they send so much water so quickly? Over the dam?

Grew up on that lake, never made any sense then, and it still doesn't now! Lol, sigh.

That water shed has a big catch, if they think they got a lot of water coming, they will draw it down fast...and if you call and ask them, they will give you the "official jargon" that doesn't really address your question. It is a lake you have to keep close tabs on via lake level data...you can get it online, dont recall exactly where, it has been a while since i had to check the data.

They never keep water in the lake, it is a flood control lake and it only has 2 gates on it that can not keep up with the river if there is alot of rain in the area. It also feeds water to the paper plant down river. They keep it as muddy and messed up as they can.

Last year they had to shut off those two gates for about 2 weeks cause Red River was so high. During that time water got so high in Patman that it was washing drift wood on some State hyways. Now every time we have a heavy Dew they open the gates.
