Just got back from fishing the calaveras. Second time I've gone in the past few months. I was using spoons and live bait I got with a cast net, mostly tilapia and perch. Never had a bag limit for reds on Calaveras, still better than a days work. What baits do you use and maybe some good spots on there? Also anyone done bass fishing out there?

Calaveras in not much of a bass lake since the 90's when TPWD decided to experiment with exotics and finally settled on Redfish and hybrid striped bass.
Talapia also took over the lake and the crappie became extinct and now there are those plecostemous (plecos) that somehow made their way from peoples aquariums and now are taking over the lake as well.
It's still a very good catfishing lake for channels and blues.
Your best baits are going to be fresh shad, talapia and perch.
You should be able to catch anything that swims in those murky waters with those baits.
I use Big Marv's punch bait also if I want a stringer of eating sized channels for the frying pan.
The wall is usually always good for reds if you don't mind the crowds on the weekends and the railroad bridge is good for both cats and reds.
Fish the rocky shorelines for cats along the dam and mid lake jetty. Drift fishing with live bait can work also and trolling artificial baits like spoons, swim baits and rattletraps, if you don't have a downrigger.

Just one more cast!
