Hypothetical question and I'm sure I will never have to worry about it but what is the procedure to get a potential record verified?

Lake records are easy. State record bass?? First thing I would call is a lawyer and the TP&W themselves.....

Thanks for the info guys I figured it might be a pain considering most lake records for carp, buffalo etc are really low and would be pretty easily obtainable in some cases

its pretty easy. carry a high quality scale with you that is either already certified or get it certified within 30 days o f the catch. Take weight, girth and length measurements. Take pictures of said fish. Get a witness to sign an affidavit and get your application notarized. I currently have the State Record Gray Redhorse sucker and my best friend has the State Common Carp record. Both fish did not have to be killed to get the record. Killing a fish for a record is nothing more than ego stroking, but if you can release the fish then it is alright in my eyes
