What is a good all round bait casting combo, length, action, reel, etc. I have med heavy catfish tackle and UL spinning rigs, but I'd like to have something in the middle. I'm not big on any store brand items as I have not had good luck with them, but don't want to break the bank. I just want something reliable and casts well. I predominately boat fish on the lakes

Fishing equipment is just like boat brands, everyone will throw you a name brand. Just go to Academy and get one of the cheaper graphite rods. If it breaks they take will replace it for free. Same goes for their reels. However if you want a name brand I use Kistler Rods and Lews reels..You can get both from Tackle Warehouse,
