I was cleaning some crappie this afternoon at the cleaning station when a man that I thought was the game warden came up and asked me about my fish and then wanted to measure a couple. He was polite and after he was satisfied that there were no short ones, he left. I noticed his truck door said State Park Police. Do these police work as game wardens too or do they call the game warden if something warrants it? I would have asked him but like I said, I thought he was a game warden. He was all decked out like one. This was my first experience with one.

I've trucks with the Game Warden decals on the doors that also said State Police. The state parks do have their own patrols and they are actually cops.

A drone took a photo of you cleaning fish and relayed it to the cop.

All licensed peace officers CAN enforce game laws

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Any Texas LEO can enforce all state laws regardless of what code they are under.

I get a kick out of people when I ask to see their fishing license and they immediately say, "But you're not the Game Warden." Hahahaha. People will be people no matter what. As stated before, ANY Texas Peace Officer can and often does enforce laws other than traffic code.

Welcome to thye forum Joel, I for one wish more LEOs could spend some time enforcing game laws so we could get a handle on all the poaching and illegal netting being done out there as well as the trashing of our lakes and rivers. I realize it might not be a very sexy assignment for some guys, but many would jump at the chance to catch some of these jerks. The Game Wardens are just too outnumbered to be effective I'm afraid.

Thanks for the kind words homie. We normally don't have time to enforce wildlife codes due to "other" more pressing calls we get every day. But I can't tell how many dope cases I've developed throughout my years by simply asking for a fishing license. Hahahaha. It all goes down hill fast when they respond "Sir, I don't have one cuz my driver's license is suspended". Man, those words are music to my ears. LOL

When I worked in ATX, I used to check folks around Town Lake. You'd be surprised how many people don't know the laws and who can enforce them.

It was Martin Creek. We talked awhile about fishing and like I said he was very polite and professional. I was kind of surprised he didn't ask to see my fishing license. I Googled the state park police and they are certified law officers. Getting kind of hard to keep up with all the different types of lawmen these days.
