This seems to be picking up steam and something that could actually happen. I’ve heard 2 different versions: the first being a permanent lowering and the second being a lowering in the spring to fall.
As a non-resident bass angler I’m against either option but I want to here other anglers thoughts and inform people about what’s happening.

What's the reasoning behind it, flood control?

I think it is 2 feet. I live near Conroe, the real test will come when the land owners cannot get their boats in and out of their slips. From my time of being around the lake it will be a follow the money deal. Here is a link. https://www.yourconroenews.com/neighborh...et-12870949.php

Hell they will figure out a way to go to 4 feet before you know it! Glad I do not own property on the lake, gonna be a lot of beaches in front of peoples boat houses. The dredging guys will make some money.

They lowered Lake Houston 2' a few weeks ago. I would think they could figure out how to control water releases from Conroe. They held water for ever before they released it during Harvey, then flooded everybody downstream. I doubt they lower it. It would ruin home values and SJRA is relying on it for drinking water to the The Woodlands.

Yeah 2 ft would make many docks unusable, I'm sure homeowners and county tax collectors will not allow this to happen. I see the problem they are trying to fix but in an event like Harvey 2 feet would not solve the problem.

All that money around that lake won't allow them to lower that lake.

Whoever thinks 2 foot will not help never got 2 feet in their house on the shores of Lake Houston. 6-1/2 months later and we lost nearly everything in our house. If we could only get more accurate predictions on rain, dropping both lakes in advance of heavy rains or tropical depressions would surely help. When they dropped Lake Houston 2.0-2.5 feet several weeks back most of the watershed North of us got heavy rains. We only got 2-3 inches on the lake I think. But our lake rose 5 feet or more in less than 24 hours. The records indicate that the lake was at 42.4' and they dropped it in advance of heavy rain predictions to 40.00. In less than 24 hours it was up 4.3' to 44.30 feet. . Had they not dropped the lake 2.5' our lake would have risen 4.3 feet or more. Lake Houston needs have the East and West Forks dredged so the lake will eventually hold more rain and water when Lake Conroe has to release water. It is a balancing act and the SRJA will have to find a way to help reduce the flooding to the residents on both lakes. Not an easy job for sure.

They lowered Houston and now Conroe? Saw how much good that did for the City of Houston with Lake Houston lowered. Those flood water were coming out if the lake had been dry!

With that kind of flood event 2ft won't do anything. The problem is, there really is no place for the water to go. Conroe is basically a constant level lake. Ya it fluctuates some but nothing like a Rayburn. Rayburn can and will routinely hold 6-8ft over pool and it helps. Letting people build on the water is the problem and having a lake downstream with the same floodplain also building on the water ain't helping during flood events. It's not a problem until it's a problem then it's too late. Sjra can't fix the problem
