I tried to go up the Richland branch of the lake and hit several submerged tree tops in 35 feet of water! I could not see them till they hit my motor. I saw another boat on plane going in close to shore. Is there a known GPS route that I can take to get up and down on that fork? I was looking for a good catfishing spot, but it seems way too risky. I thought I would be good in 35 feet of water. Is there a safe way in and out of there? My boat drafts 13" of water. Any help would be appreciated. I must be the worst fisherman in the world. I keep telling my wife there is no fish in that lake. bang

Dusty Rivers "nothing matters while on the lake"- except hidden tree top :-)

Dusty,

We have several fisherman hire us every year to "Learn the Lake". We've been fishing it since 1994 and know it pretty well. The Lake is not a Corp Lake, has no boat lanes and as mentioned you have to travel the Roadbeds and Channels. I'm making the trip almost everyday this time of the year up the Richland Arm to near the Railroad Bridge to catch Catfish. They are there by the thousands where the Commorants Roost. Wouldn't recommend you try the trip unless you learn the Lake as even the Creek Channels have treetops just below the surface in 30' FOW.

Good Luck!

Trial and error Dusty! I can run the lake up past the RR tracks and halfway to pin oak but it took a few years. The thing to remember on RC is that if you aren't SURE, IDLE! Its not worth getting hurt over.

Richland arm is scary as hell, fished with a guy who thought he knew the lake well and he decided to try and run up to TXI the day before and ended up with a bent prop shaft and luckily didn't get hurt, worst deal was it was a borrowed boat.

Back in the early 90s it was easy to run for the most part. The trees were well out of the water marking the roadbeds, channels etc... I was up near Crab Creek fishing a tourney and saw many boats running wide open in and out of the trees. That area was basically a field with trees in it with no notable routes to run but those guys could still do it or simple had bigger balls than I did cause I idled back in there!!! LOL

Gotta be careful out there, never know what is under the water. There are lone stumps everywhere!
