Was fishing under the 515 bridge at lake fork when one of the Cliff Swallows decided it was time to leave his little mud nest and fly away. Unfortunately for him, he didn't fly and hit the water. Watched him flop around in the water for a while and felt very sorry for him. When I moved to another piling I scooped him up in the net and set him on the boat. Figured maybe he could dry out and try again. He didn't try again, the nests where way over my head and I had no idea which one he came from. Didn't want to set him on the bank as I figured a racoon would just eat him. With all the mosquitoes at Fork I'm happy those little guys are flying around eating them. Ended up dropping him off at the Rogers Wildlife rescue. They will take these little guys and feed them for a few days until they fly away. No need to let them drown, as we have plenty of gnats and mosquitoes.

I think it would take a pretty hard heart to just sit and watch those little birds drown. If they hit the water people can just scoop them up and take them to the Rogers rescue. They will repay the kindness by eating thousands and thousand of mosquitoes in their lifetime.

Little sucker might have made a good, live, top water bait for a big ole bass.

But, you did the better thing

Protected species as well. I have a friend that works for TnDOT. They can't perform any maintenance on a bridge until after nesting season.

True. When we make construction plans there's always the environmental clause for bridge construction that discusses protected birds and time of year for nesting etc..
