Hi,

I have a MINN-KOTA 55 Edge trolling motor, and I was told that I have to use a very specific (Minn-Kota MK110P), very expensive, battery charger to charge the battery. My charger when kaput, and my trolling motor battery is dead.

My question is, do I HAVE to have this specific charger to charge this battery, or did the salesman pull one over on me? I don't know why it should matter on a standard battery? I don't want to spend the $ on another crappy charger that will just go kaput in another year....

Thanks!

Use what you want! A battery is just voltage to a TM. A charger is just voltage to a battery. Pair it up, and if it works, it works!

Oversimplification? Maybe. But not by too much. It is what is is.. Will others last longer, charge faster, control voltage better? Yep! But do you need that?

I used to have the same trolling motor and it shouldn't even come into play. You're charging the battery not the trolling motor. Like what's stated above...use the charger you want. I did fine with a trickle charger.
