Here's my dilemma.......
So I'm sure you've seen my post about the grass carp I caught in brays bayou the other day. And now I'm afraid to say I'm in love with the things....I was in my spot and I saw them schooling and instantly recognized what they were....I knew they were skiddish so sneaking out of my spot I try to get back to campus as fast as I can. I hit the cafeteria and get as much salad, bread, cake, corn pops and cookies, I could. Stuffed them in to a Togo box and darted to the spot again-remembering to be careful not to run too fast but I put those, just short of state finals , basketball legs to good use and snuck as close to the school as I could and just threw all the instant diabetes from the Togo box in to the current so that it would carry it to the school without me having to get up close to where they could see me. One thing about bread is that it sinks after a while but styrofoam doesn't and is the same color as bread. Do the math. As soon as my hook got to the school.....I had second thoughts....I only had 5# test...it came prespooled with it. On top of that it was a collapsible rod which is cool for quickfishing, that's why I keep it in my backpack so I can hit the bayou right after class and go catch a few to pass the time until dinner time or game time but telescopic rods are renowned for snapping due to the fact that it has more weak points....I was gonna lose my rod..and my first grass carp....on top of that it was the first fish of the year so if I lost it then it would be a bad omen from the fishing gods and my fishing for the whole year would be ruined lol. I digress back to the topic, when it bit....it was like I hooked in to The Big Show(WWE) running for a Hail Mary pass. "Oohhhh God what did I hook in to" Luckily..I had Drake playing in me headphones so I kept my cool.
"Oh man, oh man....not again"
Reel some more...fish goes on a run
"Got the drank in me going baaaack to back......yeah going back to back"
Fights the fish some more
"Back to back like I'm Jordan 96-97 I mean WOAHHHH"
Continues fishing while Jamming to drake music
I felt like Jeremy Wade for real!!! When I laded him....after 30 minutes.....with no net......an old man happened to be walking by.
"Did you get a bite yet?!!"
I held my damn near 4 foot long torpedo up ....
"OH YEAH!!!!, I GOT A BITE!!!!"
"oh my....I had no idea anything like that was in there..... Are you going to eat him"
"No it's just for fun"
"Well can I have him? O.0"
"Well...legally I'm supposed to kill him since he's a wild carp from Asia/Japan (read my old post for my position on that) and invasive species so I could give it to you buuuuttt...........he's my first of the year and he's going back to be with his family today"
I named him Torpedo and I let him swim away. Mad that I forgot my fish tags so I could officially name him and catch him another day and recognize him. Man....that thing was built ford tough.
I'm saddened everyday now because even though I can catch a bass here and there....I never see that school of grass carp again...I chum and come back an hour later but still no luck. Try the next day..no luck. I feel like God put them there for that specific day...just for me. Especially since brays bayou fisherman are typically meat hogs with push button reels with 100 pound test trying to clean the bayou of catfish xDD. Nothing wrong with that. More sport fishing for me.
Everyday since then I've gone back looking for Torpedo and his buddies but no luck...I look on the Internet and see this guy with an even bigger grass carp from McGovern Lake....now I REALLY FEEL LIKE JEREMY WADE!!! Because TODAY IM GOING ON AN EXPIDITION TO CATCH THAT GRASS CARP. Look how healthy he looks!!! I'm sure he's used to being fished for as well!! So I bet he's healthy and in shape....I'm gonna put my angling skills to the ultimate test!!! 5pound line, 5 FOOT FISH!!!. I'm probably stupid.....BUT WHEN I CATCH THAT JAPANESE INVADER IM GONNA NAME HIM E.HONDA!!! (Street Fighter Joke....god I'm such a nerd...forgive me....I know there's a lot of old men here so I'll be happy if just one person gets that joke.....I often catch myself saying "HADOUUUKEN" when I cast...okay....nerd moment over)

I know there's going to be that one person that's like "dude nobody cares" and I completely agree with you.
It's just that it's 3am and i can't sleep so why not post something haha...
Until then TFF Family!!!!
NEXT TIME, ON RIVER MONSTERS.....URBAN EDITION!!!!

See You Space Cowboy...

I think it's great you are chasing them, but I don't think you should break the law by putting them back.
