Hello people, It's my first post! I'm from Brazil and as everybody here, I love fishing! I'd like to congrats the forum! It's really nice! I read many posts and I think this is the first one about Brazil. Do you have "Tilapias" over there? It's a fish that we can find all over Brazil. It's very popular fish here, I could say that Tilapia is the most popular fish in Brazil. Look a day fishing tilapia in a private lake in So Paulo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Su7lG7diFj0Bye everybody!

Welcome to the forum De Boa na Lagoa. Glad to have someone on the forum that can give reports for Brazil which is on my bucket list of places to go and fish for Peacock Bass.
Yes we have Tilapia here in many of our lakes and some of the private lakes use them to feed the big bass that are stocked in them. Most of our power plant lakes have Tilapia and some fish for them to eat. 90% of the fisherman here on the TFF are after the big Bass. We would like to here about and see pictures of any big Peacock Bass that you guys are catching. I for one would like to learn first hand more about the area you live in and any recommendations for getting down there for the funny colored Bass. Ha....

Welcome to the forum De Boa. The Amazon basin is also on my bucket list. How big do tilapia get in Brazil? I've never seen them get very big here in Texas.

Really enjoyed the video. Those are some huge tilapia and a great fight on that lightweight gear.
Thanks for sharing.

Hello everybody! I'm really glad to hear all the welcomes!!! The first impression about this forum couldn't be better!!!
The wild Tilapias in Brazil get 1 or 2kg in average but in private lakes they get bigger because they are feed everyday so in this case they can reach 5kg nevertheless the average is 2-3kg.
Thanks Alisson

Hi Donald Harper,
Yes, we have a wonderful place to fish peacock bass in north of Brazil. Amazonia! I've never been there but I have many friends that had that experience. You easyly get fishs bigger than 10kg. Its a monster!!! I've fished Peacock Bass in the contryside of So Paulo, where the they don't get as big as in Amazonia, but they can reach 3 or 4kg. I can tell you that its amazing.... I used just artificial baits and when the PB explode on the surface you have a heart attack! I have pictures of peacockbass but i have to find in my files. Ill post as soon as i find it.
see you! bye

Hi J-Moe, Thanks!!! The exciting of fighting with a lightweight gear is amazing! I started using light gears because my son loves fishing as well and for him this kind of gear fits better. Take a look at this another video. He is fishing trout in contryside of So Paulo in a private lake (unfortunately we don't have trouts in our rivers and natural lakes in Brazil) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTI0K4t7bbw bye

Hi! that day we were using the same food the fishs are feeded everyday. I don't know the name in english, but is almost the same we feed dogs. Little brown balls. Another bait we use and works very well is this one (video in portuguese, unfortunately): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qr6W2_qFt_git's a mass of sausage and flour. We also use worm and corn.

Wow! 5kg equals an 11 pound tilapia. That's bigger than any ditch pickle bass most people ever catch in a lifetime. I wonder if a 10 pound Tilapia is as good to eat as one at 2 pounds.
From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

Welcome to the forum, as others have stated, most of us would love to travel to Brazil for Peacock bass. All my traveling involves fishing, maybe 1 day.
