I have caught bass at night, even fished for them at night. Last night however I caught bass from a dock all night long. They were working the baitfish under the light like a pack of wolves. The well organized attackes amazed me. I was at the other end of the dock and I kept hearing fish hit the top. I assumed by the size of the splash that it must be carp. I wondered down for a look and noticed not bugs, but minnows skipping across the top running from a predator. So then I was thinking crappie or white bass, but then I saw them make another round and a school of dark football shaped submarines were making wakes then they exploded on the minnows. I had planned on catching a big catfish and even declared my intentions to catch a 20+ from the bank to several folks I know. My catfish rigs sat there all night getting a half dozen bites. I had a tiny spinning reel with 8lb test line for catching bait. I switched to a 2/0 bait hook with no float or weight, just a free hook. I used the smallest bream I caught and flipped them under the light and let then swim. The pack made their round every 5-6 min. I had a blast catching large bass on light tackle. the largest I got a hook into was 5 pounds, but there were many 8-10 and maybe over that. The biggest ones would run up to the bream and then turn away. Apparently they had a taste for the minnows, but I still caught 20 or more bass.

Doesn't look like you need a boat to me. Looks like you out fished most boat owners.

I did some good on the catfish at Toledo Bend a few nights later. Still need a little boat.
