I am a Dallas resident wanting to take a group of friends camping for my birthday. Does anyone know if there are any lakes within 3-4hrs of DFW that has dry grounds camping (friday 6/5/15) and decent amount of catfish to fish for ?

Check out Mineral Wells State Park. Huge catfish a plenty. Reservations required. See this link.

Purtis Creek is great for bass and crappie but never have caught many catfish. Great place to camp.

If you want to make a trip to East Texas, try Martin Creek State Park. Very nice campgrounds and the lake has a good population of cats.
