If I were to put in at Kimball Bend on the Brazos, would I go North or South to get to Paint Rock? Anyone have any reports on the Sandies running on the Brazos in the vicinity of kimball Bend?

If you put in @ Kimball Bend you will go North or up river to get to Painted Rock. Look at it on Google Maps painted rock will be upstream just before you get to Hamms Creek Park. Someone on here might let you know if the main river ramp is usable @ Hamms Creek. Would shorten your trip considerably.

A few months back, I was at Kimball Bend, and the lady at the entrance said they haven't been able to use their ramp for years. They haven't had any rain or water rise since. I went to the ramp at Nolan River Park(there really isn't a park, and since there are no signs, you have to drive thru rock quarries to hunt and find it. Their ramp was two feet out of the water. You probably should call Hamm Creek Park and see if their ramp is usable. It's really pretty sad that even with the rain we have had, almost none falls in the lake watersheds and when any does go into the Brazos, the BRA sells the water to Squaw Creek for the nuke plant lake, and the other lakes are still at least 60% or less capacity.
Good Luck, IslandJim

Squaw Creek isn't the problem, it's always been there. the BRA made a deal with Dupont Chem. Corp, on the coast, to buy all Brazos water rights. All the lakes, on the Brazos, will suffer.

I live on the river in Somervell County. I always hear about the BRA selling water downstream. Not arguing the point but I can tell you for certain that there is almost no water entering Granbury and only a trickle coming out. Look right out my back windows and there has not been a significant release in years. I know Squaw Creek water is pumped from Granbury but I have no idea how they are "selling water downstream". It's not coming past me.

Thank again for the reports. Ended up going to Kimball Bend and launching was no problem. Not sure if the gate attendants were feeling generous this morning or what but they didn't charge me a ramp fee, they just waved me on through. Anyways, only caught a few sandbass.
