Would like to take the wife Red Fishing, couple of questions:

1. Recommendations on Lodging?
2. Should I take my Bass Boat or hire guide?
3. If I take my boat what is the down side?

Thanks

Mark

I personally would never take a bass boat into saltwater unless it was on a galvanized or aluminum trailer and had been overall rigged for saltwater use. If you have never been, I would definitely hire a guide.

Hire a guide.

Give me a call and I can help you out. Been many times. You will have a blast. No other place like it. You can use your boat without worries but you need to hire a guide for a day to learn the area. Give me a call 361/522/6270

Where you put the boat in at Venice Marina will be in freshwater. Its a lot of ground to cover there. You need to know your way around.

If you get stuck out there its real lonely and far from the Marina. Guide fee will seem cheap.

Good point Fishspanker, never boated in tidal water, they wouldn't be to cool getting stuck over night.
Guy Adams, will give you a call later this afternoon.

Guide it is.

Thanks All

Saw two trailers, carrying high end bass boats, with Minnesota plates when I was there in Feb.

You really ought to consider Calcasieu if you are just going inshore. Big
Lake Guide service. Fishing is great there. Reds and trout. Would save you 5 hours of driving each way.

I have been to both numerous times. The Delta is unique and fishing is slightly better. Offshore is off the charts at Venice. Pretty much nothing to do at Venice but fish and drink.

Calcasieu is close to Lake Charles for Seafood. I like Calcasieu for less hassle.

Square Bill, I fish the area some, and fish alot water to the East and West of it.

I live down here. What do you want to catch?

Trout are still hard to come by in this high muddy water, you need to go way down river or find the right bays to find clearer/saltier water.

What are you after?

If you choose to take your bass boat always make sure and flush the engine thoroughly with fresh water and take it to a car wash and clean the trailer, boat ,and anything else you might think had exposure to the salt and you should be fine. We hired a guide the first trip. There are alot of good guides down there. Call Venice marina and they can give you information to a good guide. They also rent small cabins right there on the property, Not the cheapest but saves from having to travel to far from the marina. Hope this helps, and the fishing is some of the best in the world for red fish.
