Where did they all go ? can we really blame water levels fluctuating?

Ray Hubbard Main Lake used to have a ton of hydrilla all gone
Lavon used to have huge areas with duck weed that was awesome for frog fishing...yes the Lavon abuve Hubbard
Ray Bob hydrilla gone
Fork, Birch used to be a hydrilla paridise.....all or mostly gone from what I've heard
Cypress & Sandlin Hydrilla paradise
Richland Chambers same as Cypress and Sandlin

I am sure there are more lakes with weeds MIA can some one that actually really possesses the knowledge comment?

On Lake Austin TPWD cut a bunch of grass carp loose and it wiped out virtually all the hydrilla and any other plant life.

TPWD is not the lone culprit when it comes to eradicating aquatic vegetation. Many lakes are governed by water districts (North TX, Dallas etc..) and they will kill the grass if they feel it poses a hazard to obtaining water from the lake. Many lakes ( ex:Cypress Springs) have property owners that feel hydrilla limits their usage of the lake and they kill it off. Power Plant lakes have utility companies that control the water and feel that aquatic vegetation can impeded their ability to move water from the lake into their cooling towers etc. Weather and low water also take a toll on the grass and that's just a fact of a major drought.

manhunter is right. I started a thread about this a couple months ago thinking it was all TPW. TPW has plenty of blame to it's name but not near all of it. Alot of times it does have to do with the water authorities believing the grass is a hazzard. From a fishermans point of view I think they kill more than necessary. From info I got on lakes like cypress the grass was killed because pleasure boaters petitioned to get it killed. They need to manage the grass instead of getting rid of it. That way everyone is satisfied.

FOLA- Friends of Lake Austin. Basically all the wakeboarders complaining saying the hydrilla will drown them if they fall in it.

Back in the day even Tawakoni and Cedar Creek had aquatic vegetation. Chemicals of all kinds have been dumped into our lakes.

Lots of the ponds I fish are just now starting to show grass again. I'm assuming the cold winter has caused it to bloom later than usual.

Ok... Here's another question when it comes to weeds. How many have caught bass when there's what I call "snot moss"? I seldom have any luck when that's in the area.

I know it's not hydrilla it's that stuff that's in the river rail road rocks on that northwest corner got it.
Then there few places the duck weeds are growing back there along the rocks if the people fishing the bank haven't killed it, was over there couple weeks ago people was all over back there lined up on the rocks both on miller and rail road rocks.
If you go be careful 500 feet before the bridge stumps right below the water everywhere water 7 to 9 feet deep north of miller water temperature was in the mid 60's
I seen fish on the down scan and side scan both couldn't buy a bite.
Habor bay been pretty good but you gotta fight the crappie fisherman working front of the tires grab bag of what you might catch. I caught bass over there that was very light colored almost gray was so light in color.

Gotcha , did you ever get out there back when there was tons of Hydrilla all over the main lake? It was amazing you may be too young though to remember it. The end of the power plant jetty had a big field of it, in bayview it was greatness, in front of the Heath boatramp had deep stuff, the bank by the pink barn was loaded. The good old days!

rolfmao I can remember some of it I was young buck back then. I take the champion I fished out of back then in a heart beat I still love that boat over this xpress.
Me and dad the other day was talking about just how different the lake fishes now vs then most my memories though is fishing the river I don't recall us fishing main body of the lake just a whole lot.
Then getting back in to fishing last few years I'm kinda of lucky that even though I was young I was able fish the golden years of ray hubbard in the 80's. I feel bad for people that wasn't around then that fishes the lake now they wouldn't understand how good it truly was.

they killed weeds about 8 years ago on my home lake in n.y. because the lake residents started complaining, now the lake is starting to come back.
They ruined a very good fishery.Reason being fry have no where to hide and now you are bait.

One of the greatest fisheries ever to exist producing trophy bass: Caney Lake near Jonesboro, Louisiana was grass carped to death back in the mid 90's the cool part is these sterile grass carp have reached their maturity and are dying off in huge numbers and the lake is rebounding. It produced 4 state record LMB's in the early 90's in the 14 to 15 pound range. I don't think LDWF is going to ever even think about doing that again. They got an earful from a lot of the fisherman in the state over that and it wasn't pretty......
