switching from right handed to left handed was honestly one of my best fishing decisions ive ever made! now i can use both left and right handed reels with no discomfort. its easier now to work baits simply because my right arm is dominant. give it a shot and don't give up on it.it will feel very uncomfortable at first but will pay off!!

I had two surgery's on my right shoulder, so by default started using left handed reels. The learning curve can be awkward but now 80% of my reels are left. My advise: in the beginning your coordination will be perfect for a jerk bait!

I switched during a shoulder injury and recovery but switched back. It wasn't the reeling, it was the years of hook set a certain way. I missed a few fish and lost confidence in making the switch. I have a couple of left handed bass pro qualifiers I'll trade you so you can try it without much investment. Let me know.

thanks for all the solid advice, its my left shoulder thats screwed up but I have been okay with a spinning reel & fly reel both of which I hold rod in right hand so maybe baitcast will be okay, gonna get a Left Shimano Caenan tomorrow & see if I like it before I invest in more

I started when I was a kid with a spinning reel that cranked left. My first baitcaster was left because thats how I learned. Still lefty today. I think I get 7.642558 more cast per hour than the other way. That equals 0 more fish a day because I hardly ever catch more than one.

I guess everyone is different. I bought a LH Curado, but just couldn't get used to holding the rod in the "wrong" hand. Bite detection and hooksets just felt wrong and I never could get used to it.
I guess that's from almost 60 years of doing it the other way. I agree it doesn't make sense since I'm right handed.

Every reel I have, baitcasting and spinning, is left handed. It feels completely natural for me because all I used growing up was a left handed spinning reel (spinning reels were either left or right handed, not both, in the 1950's and early '60s). I did use right-handed round baitcasting reels because that's all anyone used back then.
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

I fished right handed till the late 80's, one day I was fishing with a spinning reel and it occurred to me it was easier to cast with a lefty because I did not have to switch hands to crank and I also noticed I could feel my bait and bites better holding rod in right hand so I went and bought a left hand baitcaster to try it out, within 6 month's I had swapped out everything to left and have never looked back, It was a little awkward the first couple of times but quickly became second nature and now I cannot fish with a right handed reel if my life depended on it. I would suggest you do as I did and purchase a good used reel to start and try it for a couple trips and I believe you will be hooked. In fact if you would like I would be glad to loan you one to try for a month or so, so you don't have to invest in something you may not want, or if you do buy one and decide you don't like it give me a shout and I may take it off your hands. Good luck, sorry about your shoulder

I grew up with RH reel. Always hated it. As soon as Shimano started making some. I made the switch and never looked back. It make me a better fisherman. Especially with worm or jig fishing. I keep my strongest, dominant, and most coordinated had on the rod at all times. ^^^ This ^^^ I am right handed but use lefty reels as of about 12 years ago. Also stops my right handed fishing friends from using my stuff.

I've only used left-hand reels...anything else does not feel natural to me. I like being able to use my dominate hand/arm for setting the hook!

The funny thing is how many people that use right handed bait casting reels that use left-handed spinning reels! If can make little circles with your left hand when using a spinning reel, you should be able to do the same thing with a bait caster. JMO[/quote]
BUT THE CIRCLES ARE BACKWARD!!!
I am one of these ppl but I bought a lefty to flip with, now I am deciding if I want to get the Denny Brower flip and pitch reel...
