Yep. Over the years, I've contacted various law enforcement about safety problems on the water & the answer is consistently 'try to record it'. It's especially helpful if you can get video of the boat that shows the TX numbers clearly.

When I was a kid, my brother and I were fishing with some friends along the bayou where we lived. Some skiers kept passing and sprayed us about 3 times, they were older teenagers maybe 18-20 yo and we were about 12 yo maybe. On the next pass, my friend john stood up and cast his line right on the skier and held on. Well, you can guess what happened... The hook found tissue, the skier obviously fell in the water, we all took off heading up the bank and johns line broke off. I don't think those skiers sprayed fishermen anymore after that.

Another time I was in a canoe, heard a boat coming so I quickly paddled over to the bank to get out of the way, the same thing happened, except this time I swung the paddle like a baseball bat and hit the skier. Jumped out of the canoe onto the bank, with the skier in the water about 25 yards from me cussing and yelling at me. I quickly chained the canoe to a tree as fast as I could and ran for my life up into the neighborhood.

I wish they had go pro back in those days!

I fished the Mississippi Gulf coast for a twenty years. We would often fish from the piers and marinas when I did not want to take the boat out on the Gulf.

Many of the fishermen had a rod with three oz sinkers on them, no hooks. When boats or jet skiers started coming too close to where they were fishing they would take those rods and throw the sinkers toward them. Most would throw short but some would try to hit the people in the boat or on the jet ski.

I was there one day when a jet skier complained to the harbor police about the fishermen almost hitting him with their hooks. The police came and talked to the fishermen, who told him they were just casting their lines out and did not realize the jet ski was going to come so close to the shore where they were fishing. They told him the jet skier came so close to them that he threw water on them as he made the turn back out into the bay.

The harbor police went back to the jet ski rider and arrested him for riding too close to people fishing from the shore. They also seized his jet ski.

I would not throw a line at somebody in a boat or on a jet ski. That could seriously injure somebody in the boat or on the jet ski, even if you just threw a line with a sinker, no hooks.

I think the best solution is to start taking videos of these boats and filing a complaint with the game warden. If the game warden or park authorities take action against some of the boat operators these problems would soon stop.

I would have put my reel in free spool and hung on until all the line was gone, hoping it would all wrap up around the boat prop.

down on the gulf if they think your too close to the end of the pier you will get bombarded with big lead. i lost 300 yds of 30lb power pro to a douche in a pontoon boat that drove past the bouys that said no boats and ran over one of my lines while surf fishing. i was on the beach waving my arms around trying to wave him off but he just kept coming right at me. it took a few minutes to get all the line of and i was standing there yelling at this point wading out to him trying to get him to just get the motor out of gear. dude would not listen. there will always be stupid people out there. that dude learned the hard way. im sure all that braid cut up all the seals in his lower unit.

Generally if you get within 100 yards of them some will start tossing their lines with 3 or more ounces of lead at your boat. And most of them don't have any problems getting their lines to reach more than 100 yards with the rods and reels they use.

I had to buy new equipment when I moved back here as all my rods and reels were too big for lake fishing. My floats, hooks and sinkers were also too large to effectively use. My smallest sinkers were 1 oz. I use 1/4 oz here for my wife's bottom sinker here.

We go back twice a year for a week's fishing so we still get to use that equipment. banana
