Planned a trip with my dad a few weeks ago and it didn't end up happening, we came today but it's hard to find bait.. Have never been before so I don't know the lake, where to get shad, or where to fish.. Any help will be appreciated thanks!

Go to fiesta Mexican food store, I go to the one on buckner. Get a buffalo, they will even cut it up for free. That way if you don't find shad you still have a great bait. I caught a 15.5 and several smaller ones around 5lbs today on cut buffalo.

Or you if you throw your cast net, you could catch a buffalo along with an Abu Garcia combo.

I would use the BCX for a trotline weight, but due to the amount of plastic, it doesn't weigh enough. I didn't catch anything on the buff except for turtles. It looked like Kobe beef it had so much fat marbled into the meat. I figured it would be awesome bait. I caught 3 over the weekend around that size. Gave the last two away.

I caught a 15.5 and several smaller ones around 5lbs today on cut buffalo. While you are at the Fiesta Pick up some Pink Zote Soap. It is very high in animal fat (tallow or tallowate) that slowly dissolves and leaves a trail right to your trotline. It is a slow process so it works best on trotline or jugs and not Rod and Reel. Ivory Soap used to be good but not as much tallow these days. I have caught tons of Blues and Channels on Zote. No trophies but mostly 10 pounds or less. When you can wash your hands with your bait that is good. Brookshires also has it and maybe Walmart. Read this and do some more searching. http://www.catfish1.com/forums/showthread.php?167937-zote-soap-opinion-does-it-work
