Man thats a strange story. Sounds like it may have been an accident or it could have been intentional. Either way that's pretty scary. I guess I need to start carrying in the places that I can carry. And yes I have my CHL.

Dang, Who would have thought you would need to carry in a kayak to defend yourself. frown

If he had a laser dot on him and had time to notice it I don't see that being an accident. Sad stuff man. Glad to hear he's alive

Sad story. Remember to those of you that carry that we can't carry on a COE lake even with a CHL.

My wife sent me that story this morning. It's unfathomable that something like that would ever happen. Stories like that remind how easy your life can be changed or ended through no fault of your own. Glad the guy lived through it. I can't imagine how helpless he felt throughout that night.

Not the first time this sort of thing has happened, remember those two guys on the Neuces river that got shot at something like 100 times but didn't get hit? Crazy man. You are helpless against an attack like that when in the kayak, and crazy nutjobs looking for trouble know that. Stay safe fellas. Ironic how extra visibility at night from LEDs could actually end up putting you in more danger in a crazy situation like that.

It just comes down to there is nothing you can do to prevent evil people from doing evil things. Even if this guy had a gun on him, he couldn't just start firing into the dark in the general direction of the laser.

And why not? I would have had I got shot. I'd empty my clip trying to hit that bassturd.

So lets say there was some people camping there. Nice family that were good folks that dont even own a gun. But some lunatic nearby decides to do a random killing. I own a gun and I carry when I feel I need to but come on dude you cant just shoot wildly.
Imagine you or your loved one gets shot by a kayaker out on the lake and he said he was just shooting wildly because someone shot him. Better yet maybe the guy with the lazer got shot at so he unloaded on everything he saw. Get the picture?

Completely agree. Remember Eddie Ray Routh? The element of surprise is what makes it so easy for terrible things like that to happen.
