I was wondering if anyone here, who fishes saltwater inshore, has or has experienced the Ankona, Shipoke or IPB skiffs - here in Texas? I've been talking to these manufacturers for awhile, and they say one of the big drawbacks for being in Texas is shipping the boats to Texas. Is that so? This may seem like a "Boat" forum post, but I am looking for people who actually fish and use or want these boats. Move it if you must.

The florida flats type boats are pretty limited down here, there's a few, but not many. They are not as happy a boat here as they are there because... They won't run shallow enough Guys have figured out poling in 20 mph wind isn't a lot of fun.

Yeah, the wind is a pain. I have heard that same thing; "They don't run shallow enough..." a lot. I grew up on the salt - in the Valley. So what folks are saying is that 6" isn't shallow enough? Are their claims inaccurate?

I ran a 17 tunnel pathfinder for a while down here. It was by far the skinniest skiff I have ran. But it drafted more than I would have liked. c

6" is pretty marginal to be honest. And how shallow it can take off is a big number too, and the further south you go, the more it matters.
I've fished in Florida, and had Florida guys with me a few times, it's just *DIFFERENT*... and it really makes a difference how the rig is set up. I'd look at a shallow sport or curlew and see what a TX designed flats rig looks like, and compare to a florida rig, all are designed for where they're built.
