a safe bet is an oil rig during the summer, considering that your new to offshore , being near an oil rig will allow you to anchor down next to structure, idk how far off you want to or can go, but oilrigs strech out from 1-20 miles. the closer inshore ones will hold cobia, king, sharks , bull reds the offshore ones will hold bonita, some tuna, red snapper, grouper.

Mostly be looking to bottom fish and some trolling. Willing to go however far we need to as long as the water conditions are decent. Is there any good websites to find rig locations in the area or where should I look to find this information. Thank you

PM me your contact info and we can phone chat sometime. I have been fishing the Port A area all my life and have been running an offshore boat out of there for over 10 years. Not many rigs left thanks to the Feds but there are lots of great places to fish depending on what you are targeting. Maybe we can buddy boat out sometime this year and stretch some lines.

P.S. you are gonna love that Cape. The 1st offshore boat I bout was a Cape and that thing was a tank! I still miss that boat even though it was a 21 ft and not really enough for farther offshore although we took her out 60+ miles more than once.

We spend the winter in Port A (Oct - Mar) at Pioneer RV Resort. Interested in Ling (Cobia) and red snapper fishing in Texas waters so if you need someone to share expenses let me know.

There are some rocks 30 miles out, and a few wrecks, buy a map from Academy on Nortern Gulf it has all the locations and GPS numbers. I mainly fish out of PM and do mostly bottom fishing and I troll on occasion when there is weed lines and the waters right. There's still some structures out in the Gulf like the radio towers and there's still some rigs not any old abandoned ones though.

Went out to some rigs off Port A a few weeks ago in a buddy's boat. There were 3 rigs about 8? miles out. Set up on one & our tie off line broke as we were rigging up & some jerk swooped in & tied off, blocking the rest of the rig. He proceeded to catch 3 sharks in the 5 mins we were watching. Grrrr!!! There were charter boats tied off to the other 2, so we just went back in & tried in shore for the rest of the day.

Tried rigs lately? I rented a place between Rockport and Aransas pass June 18-22. I got a 24' sea hunt. Last year when we were there it was way to windy to go out to the rigs. Any advice between now and then would be great.

Those close rigs get picked to death and aren't good for much past kingfish and small sharks with an occasional ling...go deeper to some of the reefs.

The better reefs are the Liberty Ship Reef at 21 miles and many others from 30 miles on out to 60+ miles like Ranzel.
